Sadler Distinguished Leadership Annual Lecture Series

The Sadler Distinguished Leadership Annual Lecture Series aims to cultivate a new generation of healthcare leaders and innovators by featuring pioneers in health and human services leadership.

This year, after a national search, the Sadler Committee selected an outstanding healthcare leader whose work aligns with the 2024-2025 curricular theme of Health Systems Science. Tonya Fancher, MD, MPH is the 2025 awardee of the Sadler Distinguished Leadership Lecture Series.

Tonya Fancher, MD, MPH

Dr. Fancher is Associate Dean of Workforce Innovation and Education Quality Improvement and Interim Head of the Division of General Internal Medicine at the University of California, Davis School of Medicine.

For over 20 years, she has worked to address physician shortages and improve care for medically underserved communities through innovative MD programs, including a 3-year primary care pathway, a community college to medical school pathway, and pathways focused on rural, urban, and Tribal health.

Her efforts have helped UC Davis to become a leader in workforce diversity and primary care.

Dr. Fancher graduated from Cornell University (majoring in Classics and Biology) and completed medical school and residency at NYU and Bellevue Hospital. Her scholarly work focuses on challenges and solutions to inequities in medical education

Leaders from all backgrounds who are trailblazers in their respective fields are invited to apply. Priority will be given to individuals whose work closely relates to the PALLA fellowship Team Curricular Project. The 2025-26 curriculum will focus on Developing Critical Thinking in PA Education.
