Introducing the 2019-2020 GSA Executive Board
Megan Lynch, President
Megan is a fifth year in the Human Genetics program in the lab of Dr. Braxton Mitchell studying epigenetics and the methylation pattern of cases with familial hyperlipidemia. She has participated in GSA for three years and this will be her second year serving on the executive board. Her favorite hobbies include yoga, working out, and spending time playing board games with friends. Fun fact: She has the same birthday as her mother and grandmother.
Emily Smith, Vice President
Emily is a fourth year candidate in the Center for Vaccine Development and Global Health (CVD) program. She works under the mentorship of Dr. Eileen Barry and focuses on how a certain species of E. coli (Enterotoxigenic E. coli) causes human disease in hopes to create a vaccine against it. She has been involved in GSA for almost 4 years, and started out as an alternate rep for her program.
Heather Mutchie, Treasurer
Heather is a fifth year candidate in the Gerontology program working with Dr. Denise Orwig studying hip fracture and recovery in older adults. She has participated in GSA for two years and this will be her first year serving on the executive board. Her favorite hobbies include listening to podcasts, going to plays, and spending time with friends. Fun fact: Heather was left-handed until the 3rd grade.
Lauren McCarthy, Secretary
Lauren is a third year doctoral student at the School of Social Work working with Dr. Bethany Lee on the mental health and well-being of child welfare involved youth, with a focus on racial and economic equity. This is her third year participating in GSA, and her first year serving on the executive board. She is a musical theater nerd who enjoys social justice activism, hiking with her dogs, and running.
Fun fact: Lauren will be the third member of her family with a doctorate in Social Work.
Katie Gwilliam, Graduate Counsel Representative
Katie is a third year in the Human Genetics program in Dr. Ronna Hertzano's lab, studying hearing loss and transcritption factors necessary for inner ear devolpement and maintenance. She is excited to serve her first year on GSA's executive board after serving as the Human Genetics representative last year. In her freetime, Katie enjoys cooking and baking, teachig herself the ukulele, sailing, and hiking.
Tyree Wilson, Public Relations Officer
Tyree is a fourth year candidate in the Pharmaceutical Sciences program working in the lab of Dr. Angela Wilks. He studies the Heme-uptake system within Pseudomonas aeruginosa to understand how the pathogen grows and causes virulence during infection. Tyree has participated in GSA for two years with this being his first year serving on the executive board. His favorite hobbies include sports, dancing, and traveling.
Fun fact: He is a part of a Graduate School band known as Pinky and the Brains
