How To Begin Writing
Here are a few easy steps to begin writing anything important, such as a thesis.
- Clear your schedule for writing.
- Sit down at your laptop.
- Open Word.
- Pick the perfect playlist to help you focus and stay calm.
- Refill your water bottle before you start so you won’t be interrupted later.
- Go to the bathroom.
- Check your email one last time so you aren’t worrying about it.
- Oh no, I forgot to respond to that one email. I’ll just do that real quick.
- You know what, while I’m thinking about it, I should email my friend real quick and cancel plans because I’ll be writing.
- Go back to Word.
- Stare at how white the page is.
- Well now I’m panicked, let me just play a quick game of Candy Crush to calm down.
- Oh God, now 30minutes has gone by!
- Take out a paper and pen, can’t get distracted by that. Sometimes the old-fashioned way is better.
- Where do we keep our lined paper?
- Obtain lined paper.
- Obtain a working pen.
- No not that pen. I want the nice pen. This is my thesis after all.
- Proceed to doodle for 20 min.
- Look down and realize you’ve filled the page with nonsense.
- Tweet how terrible writing is even though you haven’t written anything yet.
- Go back to Word.
- Remember you went into science because you didn’t like writing in English class.
- Realize it is now dinner time and you’ve written nothing.
- Try again tomorrow.
