Graduate Research Conference 2008

Organizers:  GRC is hosted by the Graduate Student Association at the University of Maryland Baltimore.

Location: Westminster Hall at the UMB campus.

Date:  Thursday, April 3, 2008 (7:30 a.m. - 6 p.m.)

Purpose of the GRC:

The GRC provides trainees, both graduate students and postdocs from the University of Maryland Baltimore with the opportunity to present results of their ongoing research in an interdisciplinary setting to peers, faculty members, the University of Maryland community at large and other interested parties.  The GRC creates a unique and dynamic setting that facilitates the efficient exchange of information and ideas across a wide variety of scientific disciplines.

New this year:  Participants in GRC 2008 have the opportunity to be considered for three special awards.  Students presenting posters can choose to be considered for awards in Geriatrics and Gerontology, Women's Health and/or Technology Commercialization.  The Geriatrics and Gerontology Education and Research Program, University of Maryland Baltimore will be sponsoring awards in aging research at this year’s Graduate Research Conference Day. First place and honorable mention awards will be presented to graduate students who have either completed research or have research in progress in one of the following two categories: Social science/behavioral/clinical research in the field of aging; or Bio-medical/basic science research in the field of aging.

The Women's Health Research Group, University of Maryland Baltimore will be sponsoring awards in women's health research at this years Graduate Research Conference Day. First place and honorable mention awards will be presented to graduate students or postdoctoral fellows who have either completed research or have research in progress in one of the following two categories: Social science/behavioral/clinical research in the field of women's health; or Bio-medical/basic science research in the field of women's health.

The Office of Commercial Ventures & Intellectual Property (CVIP), in association with the Graduate Research Conference, is delighted to announce the first annual CVIP Translational Graduate Research Award.  The award is made in recognition of important translational research performed by a UMB graduate student and encompasses a wide array of disciplines with biomedical or other practical applications.  The recipient of the award will receive a travel award and will be formally recognized at UMB’s “Entrepreneur of the Year” event held annually during Founder’s Week.
